After going to overtime the previous night in a hard fought one goal game the Bulls and Mayhem had a slightly different look on Saturday night as the Macon brought back the Macon Trax for a one-night event reflecting on the area’s history.
Birmingham’s offense came off the previous night’s performance by giving the puck to the man who ended the game last night to kick off the scoring as Troy MacTavish beat Nick Latinovich just 1:13 into the game to give the Bulls the 1-0 lead. Each side got a chance on the power play, but after a boarding call on Birmingham’s Scott Donahue Macon’s Hunter Bersani took 10 seconds to find the back of the net on a power play to tie up the game. From that excitement the Bulls Captain Mike Davis silenced the crowd 28 seconds later to give Birmingham their lead back.
After a relentless attack in the second period it was a span of 38 seconds that saw Artur Terchiyev and Matt Wiesner tally two more to give the Bulls a commanding 4-1 lead.
Though pushing and shoving and a first period fight already showed it was a cagey matchup the continuing ticking of the clock led to bad blood pouring over as the third period saw two more fights surrounded by Bulls scoring. Jake Pappalardo scored 10:41 into the third before Scott Donahue came close to a natural hat trick saved for a late power play goal, their second of the game, from Captain Caleb Cameron at 18:48.
Latinovich stopped 41 of 49 in the loss.
The Mayhem are home one final time this season tomorrow at 4pm at the Macon Coliseum as they take on the Quad City Storm. It is fan appreciation night with team photos, post game navy jersey auction, and player autographs. Make sure you get your tickets on Ticketmaster.com or stopping by the Coliseum box office!
