The Mayhem drop the third game of their series in Peoria 5-2. The start of this game was ideal for Macon coach Nick Niedert and his squad looking to salvage their weekend against the best team in the league and snag a couple of points before the long bus ride home. Josh Boyko looked comfortable between the pipes as the Mayhem defense was solid around him. After a stretch of 4-on-4 hockey didn’t yield results for either side, the Mayhem crashed the net and Hunter Bersani banged home his first goal since joining the Mayhem, giving Macon the first lead of the contest. The Rivermen would not be denied as JM Piotrowski and Jordan Ernst scored in rapid succession to erase the Mayhem lead and install one of their own before the 1st came to a close. While the momentum was still in favor of the Rivermen in the second, the Mayhem did everything in their power to hold off the Peoria attack. Both teams had plenty of special teams chances as penalties littered the scoresheet but it wouldn’t be Marcel Godbout scored on for the Rivermen with under two to play in the period that the score would change. Alec Baer scored with mere seconds left to put the Mayhem in a three-goal hole as Sacha Roy and Alec Hagaman boxed to send the 2nd off with a bang. The fists kept flying in the 3rd as a couple of real fights popped up with between-the-whistle scuffles scattered in between. Former Mayhem captain Joseph Drapluck put another goal on the board for the Rivermen before Devin Brink beat Jack Berry to give the game its final score of 5-2. The Mayhem will have the week to regroup and prepare for their big return to the Macon Coliseum this coming weekend.
