Shorthanded Mayhem Drop Second Game to the Dawgs

The Mayhem battle the Rail Yard Dawgs hard for the second night in a row but ultimately fall short, Mayhem lose 5-2. Once the players hit the ice, it was evident there was no love lost after their first contest of the weekend last night. An ultra-physical style suited the Rail Yard Dawgs early as the Mayhem struggled to move the puck without their top two wingers, Rhett Kingston and CJ Hayes, who both were watching from the stands after suspensions. Roanoke struck first as CJ Valerian tucked in a pass in front of the new and put the Dawgs up one. The Mayhem made some adjustments and started turning the momentum around. Midway through the period, David Nippard redirected a Timothy Faulkner shot past Austyn Roudebush to even up the game before the first intermission. The second period started with a CJ Stubbs goal that put the Rail Yard Dawgs back on top. The Mayhem began to fight back before a slew of penalties left them even more shorthanded and down 3-1. Connor Graham was booked for slashing midway through the period and Roanoke was able to take advantage. Then a netfront scrum sent Wyatt Trumbley to the box for roughing before he and Caleb Cameron were both sent off for misconduct penalties. Trumbley would return in the third period but Cameron’s night was finished. In the third, the Mayhem came out like a team possessed. David Nippard kicked off the period with his second goal of the night and the team didn’t take their foot off the gas. The Mayhem continued to attack and spent a good majority of the last frame in the Dawgs’ end of the ice but were unable to get another puck past Roudebush. Roanoke scored two empty nets goals to put the final nails in the coffin and seal their second victory in two nights. The Mayhem will be back on the Macon Coliseum ice next week as Thirsty Thursday brings the Birmingham Bulls to town for a 7:30 puck drop. For tickets and more information visit maconmayhem.com.
