Over the next 6 weeks we are going to be taking a look at the players who were released on our protected list for 2023-2024. This weekly series will be a reflection of who these players are, where they have come from, and what makes us excited to bring them back to Macon. Get loud and help us welcome back #12 Reid Yochim.
Yochim, a 24-year-old from St Catherines, ON, came to Macon after spending the first part of the year in France’s League 2. Upon his return to North America the defenseman joined the team right before the holiday break and added an assist to the team in his very first game.
The Left handed Defenseman began his career playing with the Southern Tier Admirals AAA team upto 2013-14. Reid then headed off to St Andrew’s College for 2 seasons where he played in 154 games in 2 seasons posting 89 points along with 111 penalty minutes. In addition to what he did on the Ice in his second year Yochim wore the Captain’s C for St Andrews. After two successful seasons as CIISAA champions Reid went to the Langley Rivermen of the BCHL where he played 42 games.
After juniors College beckoned the d-man who took his spot at Princeton University where he played 84 games accumulating 20 points in those games before the pandemic shut down his junior and senior seasons. When the opportunity came to play again Reid took his talent overseas and played in the Swedish Division 2 with Grastorps IK for 23 games with 21 points before moving on to Norway and Manglerud for the final nine games of the season. Morzine-Avoriaz in France2 called Yochim for the beginning of 2022-23, however 10 games in Coach Nick Niedert signed Reid to the Mayhem roster. The Indy Fuel of the ECHL also took notice and requested Yochim on a loan as well.
With such a successful history behind him it was an easy choice to keep Reid on the Mayhem roster going into next season. Having another left-handed Defenseman will give Macon a huge advantage when building the roster out before the season begins.
