Nailbiter in Hunstville Ends in a 4-3 Mayhem Defeat

The Mayhem fall in a back-and-forth contest with the Huntsville Havoc 4-3. Friday night contest in Huntsville with some solid forechecking and even better defense but neither team was able to crack the other’s goaltender through the first 10 minutes. The Mayhem thought after getting the game’s first chance on the power play luck was on their side but it was Huntsville who scored first as Tyler Piacentini put the first tally on the board shorthanded. It wasn’t long before Rhett Kingston answered with a shorthanded goal of his own to knot it up. The Havoc managed to beat Karpinski one final time before the period came to a close and Huntsville carried a lead into the 2nd.

Everything was coming up Mayhem in the second. Macon outshot Huntsville 14-6 and reaped the benefits. Carter Roo netted the first of the period after receiving a beautiful feed from Kyle Soper to even up the score. Then towards the end of the period Kingston struck for the second time in the game (his fourth goal in four games) to give the Mayhem their first lead of the game. The pace of play slowed way down to open the final period of regulation. A slew of early penalties chopped up the game flow and neither team could get a feel. The first break came for the Havoc when back-to-back penalties forced the Mayhem to kill a 5-on-3. The kill was successful for Macon but shortly after Austin Martinsen snuck a puck past Karpinski and knotted up the game at three. The Mayhem continued to dig and find good opportunities. Things were looking up for Macon in the final three minutes as they continued to push but the Havoc reversed ice, put a puck off the back glass and rifled a one-timer in with less than a minute to play giving them the 4-3 lead. The Mayhem pulled Karpinski and spent the last minute with an extra attacker but couldn’t get one to go. The Mayhem will be back on the road tomorrow night as they take on the Knoxville Ice Bears before returning home to host the Birmingham Bulls on Mac’s Birthday featuring $5 tickets!
