The Mayhem win their first home game of the season, defeating the Fayetteville Marksmen 4-2. Through the first half of the opening period, this game resembled a good majority of Macon’s games so far this season. Fast-paced, back-and-forth play that saw both teams without a goal despite multiple quality scoring chances. That all changed when a 2-on-1 made Rhett Kingston the night’s first goal scorer and gave the Mayhem a 1-0 advantage. Precisely 31 seconds later Connor Graham scored his first goal of the season to make it a 2-goal lead.
The Mayhem have been sightly snake bitten in the second period this year but they came out and matched their first period intensity. A couple of penalties in quick succession left the Mayhem vulnerable and Dominick Sacco brought the Marksmen to within one. The Mayhem quickly righted the ship and clamped Fayetteville for the rest of the period. The third period almost mirrored the first portion of the first. More back-and-forth play with no shots going in. It was until Carson Vance went to the Fayetteville penalty box for a “delay of game” that the score changed. A graceful demonstration of 5-on-4 hockey allowed the Mayhem to get Liam Blackburn by himself in front of the Marksmen goaltender. The Marksmen managed to bring the score back to within 1 late but Tommy Munichiello capped the game with a late empty-netter. The Mayhem will look to keep the wins coming tomorrow afternoon as they play host to the Pensacola Ice Flyers at 4pm on Pucks & PJs night.
