Mayhem Routed by Rivermen, 7-1

The Mayhem get toppled by the first-place Peoria Rivermen 7-1. If there were some Mayhem fans back in central Georgia who were just getting home from a nice dinner, they may have missed the first two goals of the game in Peoria tonight. The Rivermen scored twice in the first 90 seconds of the opening frame to establish a commanding 2-0 lead. The Mayhem settled down and gained their footing and shut Peoria out for the rest of the period. Macon had a couple of chances on the man advantage but Peoria goalie Jack Berry shut them down and the 1st period ended at 2-0. The 2nd period opened with another power play chance for the Mayhem that was once again thwarted by the Rivermen penalty kill. Peoria then wasted no time converting on their first powerplay chance of the game and going up three. The Rivermen then tacked on another power-play goal and one at even strength before the clock hit zeroes in the 2nd period to send the Mayhem into the 2nd intermission down 5-0. The Mayhem have proven time and time again that they are not a team that goes quietly into that good night. The Rivermen put up another goal before Reid Yochim ruined the shutdown for Berry, scoring the lone Mayhem goal on the power play. Peoria managed to beat Cody Karpinski one more time before the final buzzer.

The Mayhem will have two more cracks at the 1-seeded Rivermen this weekend before returning to the Macon Coliseum for Country MOO-sic Night presented by Georgia Grown next Friday, February 24th, at 7:30pm. Tickets and more information are available at maconmayhem.com.
