Mayhem Ring in the New Year With a 3-2 Victory

The Mayhem play three complete periods and get the better of the Pensacola Ice Flyers 3-2. The first period was marked by hard skating and great defense by both sides. Neither team seemed able to crack into the opposing zone throughout the first 10 minutes of action. As the teams started to settle in, the Mayhem began to get some good looks at the net. It wasn’t until 14 minutes into the period when Caleb Cameron scored in his first game back from personal leave, putting the Mayhem up one after one. Both teams picked up the intensity in the 2nd as Joey Sofo scored the first goal for the visitors. In proper heel fashion, the former Mayhem player saluted the crowd after his first goal back in the Coliseum. Five minutes later Aaron Aragon answered shorthanded after David Nippard was sent to the box. The Mayhem proceeded to kill off the rest of Nippard’s minor but then surrendered a shorty themselves at the hands of Malik Johnson. The rest of the period was chalked full of both sides exchanging verbal barbs but no goals as the 3rd would start knotted up at 2-2. The 3rd period mirrored the first with the Mayhem especially playing some stingy defense. A Nigel Slade hook gave Pensacola an opportunity with a man advantage but Macon took care of business shorthanded. Then when Ice Flyers defenseman Jordan Henderson was sent to the box a minute later the Mayhem made good on their opportunity as David Nippard netted what would ultimately be the game-winning goal. The Mayhem hit the road next weekend and won’t take the ice again in Macon until Guaranteed Win Night on January 22nd. Tickets and more information are available at maconmayhem.com.
