The Mayhem come short to the red-hot Bulls 3-0. Typical of a Thursday night contest, both teams came out of the gate looking a little sloppy. Things quickly straightened out and the defenses started humming. The neutral zone was no man’s land for almost the entire first period, neither team was giving an inch. The Mayhem had two chances with a man advantage but it was Birmingham captain Mike Davis who scored the only goal of the first, finding a loose puck in the crease and converting. The 2nd period had a similar flow to the first. Tough defense in the neutral zone meant not a lot of offense generated for either side. The scoresheet was littered with 2-minute minors with both sides seeing plenty of powerplay action. Macon once again got their chances but it was the Bulls who left the period with a tally on the man advantage. Matt Wiesner forced one past Trevor Martin to extend the Bulls’ lead to two after two. The Mayhem stuck to their game in the 3rd and had some of their best opportunities to score. Unfortunately for the home team, it was Ben Churchfield’s night to shine as he kept the Mayhem off the scoreboard through the full 60 minutes. Trevor Martin also played lights-out in the 3rd, only surrendering a penalty shot goal on the 22 shots he faced. The Mayhem will look to shake off the loss tomorrow night as they host the Knoxville Ice Bears at 7:30 pm on Teacher Appreciation Night. For tickets and more information, visit maconmayhem.com.
