Mayhem End on the Wrong Side of Tough Battle in Peoria, 3-1

The Mayhem battle hard but come up just short in their second game in Peoria. Coming off of their 7-1 loss at the hands of the Rivermen last night, the Mayhem were looking to rebound in the second night of their three-game series in Peoria. Both teams trotted out different goalies for this second affair and they stole the show in the 1st period. Peoria’s Eric Levine and Macon’s Josh Boyko (making his Mayhem debut) faced 10 shot each in the opening frame and every single one was turned aside, sending the game into the 2nd scoreless. The game remained in the hands of the netminders through most of the second period as well. The ice tilted in Peoria’s favor after the Mayhem were forced to kill off two minor penalties early. Boyko and the Macon defensemen did what they needed to do to keep the Rivermen off the scoresheet. Tucker Scantlebruy crashed the Peoria net against two Rivermen defensemen and forced the puck past Levine to give the Mayhem their first lead of the weekend. Peoria came out the gate in the 3rd looking to even up the score. After they had one goal waived off for high-sticking, a puck made its way past Boyko as he was bumped by traffic in front of the net. Six miuntes later, the Rivermen converted again putting the Mayhem down for the first time in the game. The Mayhem saw some excellent chances late but it was the Rivermen captain Alec Hagaman who scored an empty-netter with under a minute to play to seal the fate of the Mayhem. The Mayhem will have one more crack at the Rivermen tomorrow afternoon before returning home for a big weekend in the Macon Coliseum. Friday, February 24th is Country Music Night presented by Georgia Grown followed by Miracle Night on the 25th and Scout Night on the 26th. For tickets and more information visit maconmayhem.com.
