The Mayhem fall in their second straight matchup against the Havoc, 5-2.
This game picked up right where last night’s contest left off. Both teams were playing at a dizzying pace and the Havoc were the first team to capitalize with Austin Martinsen scoring less than two and a half minutes in. The Mayhem settled and got back to their game. Even though they were unsuccessful on their first power play of the night, they evened up the game shortly after on the strength of Garrett Hallford’s first professional goal. The Havoc would regain control towards the end of the period with two power play goals to take a 3-1 lead into the break.
The Mayhem were given three more opportunities with a man advantage in the front half of the 2nd. The scoring chances were abundant but Max Milosek was putting on a clinic between the pipes for the Havoc and kept the Mayhem off the board. After Trey Phillips made it 4-1 in favor of the Havoc, CJ Hayes answered beating Milosek for what would be the final time in the game.
Huntsville entered “park-the-bus" mode in the 3rd and appeared content with riding their lead to the conclusion of the game. Phillips scored his second of the night on a long shot from the blueline that would serve as the only goal of the period. The atmosphere down on ice level got tense when Rhett Kingston and Kasey Kulczycki connected and had some words after the fact. While no one dropped the gloves, the verbal spats were frequent to say the least. The linesmen ushered the Havoc off after the final buzzer and the Mayhem were forced to turn towards tomorrow.
The Mayhem will take the ice in the Macon Coliseum one more this weekend as they host the Knoxville Ice Bears tomorrow at 5pm, directly after the Cherry Blossom Festival in Macon. For most information and tickets, visit maconmayhem.com.
