Mayhem Battle Tough Against the Marksmen but Fall 6-4

The Mayhem scored two quick goals in the 3rd but fall short in their comeback attempt against the Marksmen, final score of 6-4. The scoring started early in the first as Aaron Aragon tallied the first mark on the score sheet. An impending icing call was saved by the pieces of a broken stick that redirected the puck right to the Mayhem forward who made it 1-0 early. Fayetteville wasted no time responding as Matt McNair netted his first of the night. The pace slowed a little and neither team added to the scoreboard until the last part of the period when Vincenzo Renda put the Marksmen up 2-1 heading into the second. In the second, the Marksmen picked up where they left off increasing their lead to two goals less than two minutes in. Drake Glover scored his first of two on the night and put the Mayhem behind the “8-Ball”. Jacob Ratcliffe responded five minutes later for the Mayhem to cut the deficit in half. The next time Ratcliffe took the ice, he took a big hit that led to a scrap between Matt Stoia and Renda that would serve as the last highlight until late in the period. Fayetteville went into the third with their two-goal lead restored thanks to Glover scoring his second of the period. The Mayhem opened the third period attacking hard but ultimately couldn’t notch a goal until after McNair scored his second of the night for the Marksmen. When Macon did beat Conor O’Brien, they did it in a big way. Rhett Kingston and Tommy Munichiello scored back-to-back to cut the Fayetteville lead back to just one goal. Brett Radford then got booked for tripping and after a great shorthanded attempt for the Mayhem, Fayetteville took it back the other way and Matt McNair completed his hat trick and put the game out of reach. The Mayhem will be back on the Macon Coliseum ice tomorrow night as they host the Pensacola Ice Flyers for a New Year’s Eve showdown. Free parking and $3 beers will help the Mayhem fans ring in 2023, tickets and more information are available at maconmayhem.com.
