The Mayhem rolled into Fayetteville for the final two games of the season looking to finish the year on a positive note against an opponent Macon had gone 3-4-0-0 against this season. With two games in two nights the Mayhem had a chance to not only pull even but take the season series against a team in the Marksmen who have been very difficult for them over the history of the two teams.
Before the game started travel issues pushed the start of the game back. The delayed puck drop seemed to have little effect on the Mayhem as they kicked off the scoring 5:46 into the game as Aaron Aragon threw a puck onto Jason Pawloski from the corner and the puck snuck through into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. The lead was short-lived however as Jack Patterson scored 1:46 later to even up the game. The Marksmen began to run away with the game with goals from Austin Alger, Matt McNair, and Grant Loven to give the Marksmen the 4-1 lead before Macon was able to respond as Tommy Munichiello intercepted a pass behind the net dropping it to Hunter Bersani who found Rhett Kingston in the slot to close the gap to 4-2 at 18:22 of the first.
The second frame was all around low event as the two teams showed the length of a long season. Each side had a power play opportunity, but nothing to show for it as the game went to the third 4-2.
The Marksmen came out firing again in period three as Grant Loven notched his second of the game and of the season. Despite a lack of scoring the referee’s job was a tough one as 12 infractions were called, but didn’t translate into anything on the scoresheet.
Churchfield stopped 23 of 28 in the loss.
