MACON, GA – The Macon Mayhem of the Southern Professional Hockey League today announced they have re-signed forward Jamie Bucell. Bucell is the first member of last year’s squad to return.
Bucell will be entering his first full year of playing professional hockey. The 5’11” forward played collegiately for Utica College where he was named an alternate captain his last season. In his final season with the Pioneers, he scored 18 points in 29 contests. Bucell, a 26 year-old forward from Garfield Heights, Ohio, originally signed a professional try-out agreement with the Macon Mayhem toward the end of last season. During his five game stint with the Mayhem, Bucell impressed the Mayhem coaching staff enough to earn a spot at training camp.
“When we signed Jamie [Bucell] to a PTO agreement, he brought fire and pace into our lineup,” remarked Mayhem Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Zac Desjardins. “I expect him to do the same this fall. He was aggressive in driving to the net; it seemed every time I looked he was parked in front of the goalie. Bucell also has a quick release on his shots and passes. Looking at the analytics, he was a serious threat in the faceoff dot, which is an area where we struggled last season. We have to win possessions more effectively. Bucell is an excellent blend of size and skill that will solidify our center forward depth.”
Bucell and the rest of the Mayhem squad will report to camp in the middle of October looking to earn a spot on the Opening Night roster. For a current list of the Mayhem’s training camp roster, click here.
The Mayhem’s home opener is Friday, October 21st with the opponent yet to be determined. Season tickets and partnership opportunities are on sale now for the upcoming season; for more information on becoming a part of all the action, call the Mayhem front office at 478.803.1592.
