Macon Falls in Finale, 3-2


The Mayhem came into Saturday night’s finale with an eye on finishing a tough season on a positive note. After falling 5-2 the previous night the Marksmen had proved to be no easy task despite already having secured themselves a playoff spot.

For the second night in a row the Mayhem found the back of the net first after Dalton Hunter took a roughing penalty the Mayhem’s power play went to work and Simon Boyko tallied his first professional goal on the power play at 15:54 of the first. Fayetteville would battle back however as 47 seconds later Hunter redeemed his penalty with a goal to tie up the game at 1-1.


The Marksmen capitalized again as Taylor McCloy was able to beat Nick Latinovich on a screened shot at 4:15 to give Fayetteville the 2-1 lead. After the goal the special teams ended up dominating the rest of the second period as 9 penalties including two fights saw the physicality ramp up heading into the final frame.


Despite back and forth action throughout the second period the Marksmen increased their lead in the third as John Moncovich scored through another screen at 3:23 to make to 3-1. Macon pushed back and continued to attack and at 19:04 Tommy Munichiello was able to get one through Jason Pawloski to close the gap to 3-2. The Mayhem pulled their goaltender but were unable to find the tying goal.

Latinovich stopped 20 of 23 in the loss.
