Macon Adds Czech Defenseman Jiří Hajda

MACON, GA – The Macon Mayhem of the Southern Professional Hockey League today announced the signing of Jiří Hajda. Hajda is the first defenseman signed to the Mayhem’s training camp roster.

Jiří Hajda (pronounced YI-ree XAJ-da) possesses towering size at 6’5″ and 238 lbs. The 27 year-old defenseman played juniors in North America before turning professional in the 2016-17 season. The native of Valasske Mezirici, Czechia returned to Europe to play professionally. He has played the last five seasons for varying leagues in Czechia and Slovakia. He spent last season with HK Gladiators Trnava, a team in the second division of Slovakian hockey. While considered more of a defensive-defensemen, he scored 8 points while registering a +9 plus/minus. The left-shot defensemen shares some unique history with Mayhem Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Zac Desjardins as well.

“I coached him in juniors in Oklahoma City,” said Desjardins. “Even then, he was a man among boys and still fits that moniker today. Hajda is a very physical player, but he’s very smart about using his body. With his size, he has excelled in boxing people out and preventing the opposition from parking in front of our net. Offensively, he makes the simple play and possesses a towering shot from the point. We’re very excited about his capability to help shore up our back end.”

Hajda and the rest of the Mayhem squad will report to camp in the middle of October looking to earn a spot on the Opening Night roster. For a current list of the Mayhem’s training camp roster, click here.

The Mayhem’s home opener is Friday, October 21st with the opponent yet to be determined. Season tickets and partnership opportunities are on sale now for the upcoming season; for more information on becoming a part of all the action, call the Mayhem front office at 478.803.1592.
