The Mayhem spend almost the entire 60 minutes in Knoxville either tied or in the lead but falter down the stretch and fall 3-2 to the Ice Bears.
The Mayhem came out looking stout defensively and rode some excellent play from goalie Tom Aubrun to a scoreless first period. A couple penalties on either side left both teams playing down a man at points but neither team could capitalize as the first intermission came without a goal on the scoreboard.
Caleb Cameron had about enough of the scoreless draw as 32 seconds into the second period he opened the scoring with his second goal of the year on a powerplay that carried over from the first. This opened the floodgates as Knoxville’s Brady Fleurent netted one for the Ice Bears but was quickly answered by Macon leading scorer Tommy Municiello scoring his third of the 22-23 campaign. Fleurent was able to find the back of the net one more time before the period ended so the teams went to the dressing rooms tied a two apiece.
The 3rd opened with both teams looking to jump out in front but ultimately it was Knoxville’s Justin McDonald who scored first giving the Ice Bears their first lead of the night. The Mayhem spent the rest of the period generating offense and peppering Knoxville netminder Kristian Stead but even with a powerplay at the very end, they couldn’t get the game-tying goal.
The Mayhem fall to 0-5-0 as they get set to continue their road trip tomorrow as they take on the Fayetteville Marksman at 6pm. They return to the Macon Coliseum on Thirsty Thursday November 17th when they take on the Birmingham Bulls. Puck drops at 7:30 PM EST. Ticket information can be found at maconmayhem.com.
