3rd Period Costs the Mayhem, 6-2 Loss to The Havoc

The Mayhem suffered a string of bad breaks in the 3rd and fall to the Havoc 6-2. The 1st period belonged to the Mayhem on both sides of the ice. After coming out flat last night against Birmingham, they looked determined to make the game theirs from the jump. After David Nippard opened the scoring just after the three-minute mark of the opening frame, the Macon defense took their turn to shine. The neutral zone defense of the Mayhem suffocated the Havoc and held one of the most potent offensive teams in the SPHL to five shots on net in the period. The Mayhem continued their neutral zone dominance at the beginning of the 2nd, but the ice began to open as penalties started going both ways. After Jesse Anderson fought Dominick Procopio in response to a low hit on Tucker Scantlebury, the tempers cooled for a moment. Jamie Bucell evened up the contest with the lone goal in the 2nd then Scantlebury took his turn as the protector, working Alex Kielczewski after he caught Wyatt Trumbley in open ice. In the 3rd period, things stopped breaking Macon’s way. Jacob Barber scored early followed by a puck that snuck by Trevor Martin off the stick of Chris Jones to make the score 3-1. Aaron Aragon answered in a big way to cut the Macon deficit to one, but that would end the Mayhem scoring. The Havoc converted on a shorthanded breakaway, giving Barber his second of the evening. They tacked on two more in the final five minutes to put things out of reach and send the Mayhem off with a 6-2 loss. The Mayhem will have one more crack at it this weekend, hosting the Knoxville Ice Bears tomorrow night at 6:30 pm. It’ll be a special night in the Macon Coliseum as the Mayhem celebrate our first responders and Paw Patrol night. Bring out your furry friends and help the Mayhem thank our first responders for all the work they do! Tickets and more information are available at maconmayhem.com.
